Picture this: You’re on your way home from the dog park. Your little pup sits in the back seat and sticks his head out the window. All of a sudden, you remember that you need to pick up some deodorant from the grocery store. But what to do with your furry friend? They don’t allow dogs in the store, and you don’t feel comfortable tying him to a telephone pole, so what’s the harm in leaving him in the car for a few minutes? It’s sunny outside and the weather report said temperatures would only be in the 70s. Besides, you’ll only be gone for a few minutes.
Unfortunately, this scenario is far too common among dog owners. Everyone knows that leaving a dog in a hot car is a bad idea, but some of the most loving pet owners might not understand how dangerous even a few short minutes can be. Did you know that the temperature in a car can rise as much as 20 degrees in 10 minutes? For animals who cool themselves by panting, this is bad news, as it ends up making the car humid and hotter as a result.
These two pups were left in the car for a few minutes while their owner went into the store. But, unlike some other dogs, these two weren’t going to wait patiently. What they do in response is the perfect message to dog owners everywhere who think it is okay to leave their pets in the car.
